Chassis No.1246

Swallow Doretti

Taittinger Doretti

Swallow Doretti, Chassis No.1246 a Sky Blue/pearl white vehicle with a blue interior and a black hood, was first registerd in France as 73020-EK-75, on 1st January 1955 and owned briefly by Mr. de Galeo. On the 6th October 1955 the car was bought by Patrick Sellier, from Jacques Savoye, a Paris car dealer. Patrick owned the car until 16th October 1958, when he sold the car to Chardonnet in Paris and bought an AC Aceca.

The accompanying picture is No.1246 and Amaury Taittinger in Juex, Reims, circa 1958.

Following the suggestion of Patrick, Chassis No.1246 was bought by François Taittinger, head of the Champagne House, as a gift to his wife, Béatrice Taittinger-Sellier, (sister of Patrick), on 4th November 1958, from Chardonnet. The Doretti was registered in Reims as 913-EQ-57.

Following the death of François in a car accident in October 1960, the Doretti was sold to Fortunée (Patrick) Amiach, painted French Blue with a matching interior, and remained in his car collection for 35 years, registered in Paris as 6889-LE-75.

In May 1998 the car was brought back into Taittinger family ownership by François's sons, Amaury and Hugues and then they returned the car to its exact 1955's condition of Sky blue/pearl white on the outside and the original blue leather colour on the inside. A nice story knowing that their mother, Béatrice who died in 2000, was able to see "her" Doretti again exactly as it was in the 50's. The Doretti kept the registration as the car was stored in Paris.
