Swallow Doretti - Cars & Owners

Chassis No.1208

Chassis No.1208 Tim Stonger, the new owner of a right-hand drive 1954 Swallow Doretti, Chassis No.1208, reports that the car recently won the Premier award at the 2021 Concours d'Elegance at Copshaholm, Indiana, USA.

Early in 2000, Lynn Martin of Post Falls, Idaho, completed a frame-off concours restoration of Chassis No.1208. Lynn put more than 837 hours into the mechanics, body, and paint. The interior was done by Recovery Room in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and Triple Plate Chrome in Spokane, Washington did the chroming.
The soft steel inner panels were badly rusted away and all replacement panels were handmade. Most of the outer aluminum panels were also badly corroded by electrolysis and new aluminum was shaped and heliarced to repair them. All mechanical components were in need of rebuilding or replacement; even the front suspension vertical links were bent and not usable. Surprisingly, the numbers on the engine matched the brass ID plate as well as the transmission and rear axle housing numbers, all indicate they are original.
